Problems to be solved (justification of the need of the transnational cooperation):

The main project’s objective is to develop the best methods of work with mentally deficient people. The execution of the project will contribute to counteract with their social exclusion.
Low self-esteem, mental social barriers, helplessness syndromes – these are only some of the problems mentally deficient people’s instructors experience at work. Working with mentally deficient people means seeking solutions and new methods permanently in order to help them join an active social life. One of the most effective methods for this purpose is art therapy. The Voivodeship House of Culture in Kielce (Wojewódzki Dom Kultury w Kielcach) has been pursuing this kind of activity with great success for over 20 years. Our institution will willingly share our experience and achievements as well as learn about new and effective methods in this area.
The supranational project will offer new possibilities to share experience and develop new solutions for art therapy instructors.

Objectives to be achieved: -    sharing experience in the area of solutions for art therapy;-    acquiring knowledge, new skills and new forms of work with mentally deficient people;-    supporting mentally deficient people to avoid their social exclusion;-    increasing the effectiveness of work with mentally deficient people.
Main transnational activities (as provisionally planned, to be confirmed with partners): -    Initial seminar:     15 participants from  abroad (mentally deficient people’s instructors and art therapy experts)  will visit Kielce in order to meet an agreement on the details of the project – (4 days)-    Workshop for instructors: exchange, 60 participants  - 15 from abroad (8 days in Poland)-    Art exchange: the group “Uśmiech” will go on a visit abroad (35 participants – of whom persons in charge of the mentally deficient people) (4 days)-    Art exchange: foreign guests will come on a visit to Poland: artistic group (35 participants) attending performances (4 days)-    Expert publication-    Final seminar: 15 participants from abroad, 50 participants from Poland.
Planned deliverables & outcomes of TNC: An exchange consisting of the above mentioned activities will help to develop a practical way to art therapy, based on sharing experience and learning about other countries’ methodology. It will allow instructors to extend their knowledge of work applying art therapy and to widen their general spectrum of activities in that field. It will also have a positive impact on the quality of culture instructors’ work with mentally deficient people and on limiting their social exclusion. Direct benefits of the project:-    1 seminar to support the knowledge exchange on working with mentally deficient people;-    60 participants will benefit from an instructor’s workshop to learn about new skills in the scope of working with mentally deficient people;-    70  mentally deficient persons will benefit from this artistic exchange partnership;-    Preparing and publishing an expert publication of the work methods with disabled people;-    1 seminar to present the project’s achievements to the public.
