Problems to be solved (justification of the need of the transnational cooperation):

The target group for this project are Small and Midsized Enterprises within woodworking, metal working and engineering, and the electronic industries in Norrbotten, the northernmost region of Sweden. A great challenge for the industrial companies in the northern part of Europe is how to manage to compete with their products on a worldwide market. One issue is a constantly decreasing population in this area. The companies need to make sure they have the right competence and skills in-house to be able to compete and survive. The problem is that there are not many local activities available. These SME’s have difficulties to find time and money to travel in order to get the training they need.

Objectives to be achieved: The primary aims of our transnational participation are: To find projects in other European countries who have been successful in working with educational activities towards SME’s. To find methods for in-service training activities. Too find some good examples where common demands have been gathered and then executed in trainings and workshops towards the identified target group. To explore possibilities for Swedish SME`s to build future relationships with companies in other European countries.
Main transnational activities (as provisionally planned, to be confirmed with partners): PLUSS will be working with educational activities in some strategic areas; for example production, organisation, leadership, product development and sales/marketing. We will be gathering information about common educational demands in these areas. Then we will be responsible for initiating and organizing these activities. How?IUC Norrbotten has a good relationship with these SME´s since many years. As we have been working closely with many of them, we have a good understanding of their areas for development through yearly development discussions. Their needs and demands concerning competence are to some extent equal to their development needs but not completely the same. We have launched a website: www.iuckompetensnorr.se where companies can fill in a questionnaire but this is a new site and it will take some time until we get the information we need via this tool. We are looking for projects/companies that have some experience in this area who would be able to give us some inputs and ideas.
