Problems to be solved (justification of the need of the transnational cooperation):

Few people are willing to start their own business and take the risks it involves. Recognising the importance of entrepreneurship for European economies and their competitiveness on global markets (as described among others in the Europe 2020 strategy, the European Employment Strategy and the Small Business Act for Europe), there is a need to address the following shortcomings:

  • Significant portion of unemployed people do not see entrepreneurship as a viable alternative to employment and do not recognise the advantages entrepreneurship can offer;
  • Employees prefer job security instead of embracing the possibilities of entrepreneurship (e.g. self-fulfilment);
  • Entrepreneurs do not see the advantages offered by cultivating the entrepreneurial climate and spreading the entrepreneurial skills.

Women, young people and older persons represent vulnerable groups most threatened by unemployment and at the same time face the most barriers to start entrepreneurship:

  • Women are afraid of not having enough time to care for their families;
  • Young people feel the disadvantage of having little experience;
  • Older persons are afraid of not being successful due to limited time available before reaching retirement age.

Small businesses are dependent on the personality of their owner/founder and therefore not prepared to be transferred or sold to a new owner. Matching transferable businesses with potential new owners is a practice unknown in the Czech Republic, but likely to become more and more sought-after as the first generation of entrepreneurs is reaching the retirement age.

Objectives to be achieved: Introduce innovative approaches and successful practices used abroad to provide integral services for clients and to prepare them for entrepreneurship in a more efficient and effective way.Provide special attention to women, young people and older persons in order to encourage them to pursue entrepreneurship.Offer integral services for people wishing to start a business: diagnostics of entrepreneurial competences; personalised recommendations taking into account their key competences; entrepreneurial education/training focused on specific entrepreneurial activities, including cultivation of “entrepreneurial mindsets”; consultancy services during the starting phase (including mentoring) in order to ensure a higher success rate. Provide services to match transferable businesses with potential new owners.Support the cultivation of entrepreneurial culture.Disseminate the newly-gained knowledge among other organisations working in the same field.
Main transnational activities (as provisionally planned, to be confirmed with partners): Exchange of ideas and good practices in order to improve the services offered to the target group. Use both own experiences with similar projects/courses and knowledge gained providing consultancy services to entrepreneurs to be a worthy participant in the transnational debate. The transfer of good practices and innovative ideas concerning both support of entrepreneurship and educational programmes. Study visits for better understanding of partners´ innovative approaches. Open conference enabling all the partners, other organisations and general public to get together and discuss in depth challenges, available solutions and conditions improving the effectiveness of the projects. Methodology/learning materials for educational and training programmes as well as for consultancy and mentoring activities to be available to general public. Set up a bilingual web portal using the experience and knowledge gained, featuring: A marketplace/database matching transferable businesses with potential new owners, including advice to prepare a business for the transfer and offering appraisals of the business´ sale potential; Ideas concerning untapped areas of business activities (e.g. services not available) in the regions; Motivational and inspirational success stories.
