Problems to be solved (justification of the need of the transnational cooperation): Possibility to travel and public space accessibility are basic human rights, nevertheless architectural planning in accordance with Universal Planning (“Design for All”) is still slowly gaining decision-makers’ interest in many countries in Europe. Many years’ experience of TUS Foundation and other organizations and institutions dealing with social activation of people with disabilities indicates that the main problem of people with disabilities in Europe is lack of adaptation of public space to their needs. Despite of numerous attempts to adjust public space to the needs of different social groups, people with disabilities are faced with many barriers in moving around. A common reaction of people with disabilities to this situation is the reluctance to leave a safe home place, what results in their partial or total withdrawal from social life. These psychological barriers worsen over time and are more and more difficult to overcome. Crucial is to prevent this process and enable people with disabilities to participate fully in social and professional life.
Objectives to be achieved: Our main objective is to provide good information and support individuals with functional disabilities from Europe with their daily activities. We want to inspire our transnational partners to work with accessibility of public space.
Main transnational activities (as provisionally planned, to be confirmed with partners): We will share our know- how with other organizations, that want to make audits of buildings in their own country. We will carry on courses in accessibility of public space and give individual advice to project leaders and management. Throughout the project it will also be possible to support and inspire other ongoing projects in their transnational work in order to increase the efficiency and contribute to the development and learning in the projects.
Planned deliverables & outcomes of TNC: Our planned output is to extend of the territory covered by Niepelnosprawnik database and create a transnational search engine with data from number of European countries. The outcome would be giving a possibility to travel and public space accessibility (in number of EU countries) to people with disabilities.
