Problems to be solved (justification of the need of the transnational cooperation):

The project Media X Change is a staff exchange programme of four european civil media stations for two years. It aims at enabling locally based media workers to go abroad for a period of three months to experience working in a civil media station in a different country, meet their counterparts from the hosting centre and making first-hand-experience of the reality of intercultural exchange.
Civil media all over Europe are very different from one another. Media X Change has no intention to change the fact that civil media stations in Europe clearly reflect their output in local community. All the differences are therefore truly a tribute to the concept of cultural diversity in Europe.
At the same time it is quite obvious that working at a civil media station is definitely a job that requires many skills and competencies, and all these competencies are closely connected to the work of presenting and facilitating local civic engagement and cultural activity. The Participants are surrounded by colleagues who can benefit from the specific knowledge and vice versa of each other.
With the project we fill a gap, as no Europe-wide exchange programme had previously existed focusing exclusively on employees of civil media stations. Also, the Media X Change has no age limit and is therefore accessible equally to young people eager to gain general international experience, and to more mature professionals with very specific interests and expectations.

Objectives to be achieved: Obejctives: to have participants learn from working methods at cival media stations in another country, in order to enrich themselves at a personal as well as a professional level to offer media professionals first-hand experience of the realities of intercultural exchange, in order to enhance sensibility for and appreciation of cultural differences through practical efforts and thus to equip them better for intercultural dialogue; to get the European independent civil media sector closer in a network by establishing lasting contacts between cultural centres and identifying possibilities for international projects to exchange knowledge and good practice at European level to promote the trans-national mobility of media professionals; to exchange knowledge and good practices at European level;
Main transnational activities (as provisionally planned, to be confirmed with partners): Main acitivitiesDuring the exchange period participants spend three months at a foreign civil media station. Here they will mainly observe and perform job shadowing, but of course they are also expected to get actively involved in ongoing activities or special events at the host centre. Documenting the experience, for example by taking pictures and writing an Exchange Report, is an integral part of the exchange. We develop comprehensive guidelines, based on participants’ experiences, for the benefit of future participants and to disseminate widely the conclusions and recommendations derived from the programme.
